Description

The Scorched dining table is inspired by the ancient Japanese technique of Shou-Sugi Ban, which is still used today in modern architecture.;The timber planks are carefully charred by hand, forming a naturally protective coating. The process is very time-consuming but results in a visually stunning effect.;The same technique is used in the Scorched dining table, creating a distinctive and authentic charred finish on three wide planks of ash timber. The rich, satin-black colour highlights the texture of the wood for an immensely tactile experience, offset by the architectural lines of the Dark Bronze frame.

Our Stylist Says

I love this table for its bold, modern aesthetic combined with natural warmth. The burnt ash finish adds a rich, textured surface that brings character to contemporary interiors, while the dark bronze base lends an industrial edge. It works particularly well in open-plan spaces with a mix of modern and rustic elements, or in minimalist settings where its striking design can stand out. Practical styling tips include pairing it with upholstered chairs in neutral tones for a balanced look, or adding layered lighting above to highlight its unique surface. To keep the overall look cohesive, consider mixing natural materials like leather or linen, but avoid overly ornate decor that might compete with its raw, understated appeal.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
