Description

Design. Incarcerated in style, the Bastille chair is wrapped around the outside in brass studded Pixel leather which conveys a strong, protective look. The interior seat and rounded back are smooth, soft and luxuriously inviting in Safari leather, carefully sanded by hand to achieve a suede-like effect that is incredibly tactile. The natural marks and characteristics of the hide are brought to the surface of the leather for a very natural, distressed look that will continue to age over time for a well-loved lived-in look. Brass feet complete the ensemble.

Our Stylist Says

The black leather Bastille armchair is a great statement piece that combines classic elegance with contemporary edge. I love its rich upholstery and distinctive gold-toned base, which work well in both modern and traditional interiors. It’s perfect for creating a luxe corner in a living room or a sophisticated waiting area. For styling tips, try pairing it with warm textures like plush throws or velvet cushions to soften the look, or juxtapose it with sleek, minimalist furniture for a more dramatised aesthetic. Because of its solid construction and striking visual appeal, it works particularly well as a focal point in a room that’s layered with other luxurious yet understated decor.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
