Description

One of the first things Tim started selling in his dads antiques store was old leather suitcases and trunks. The leather on the suitcases had taken a beautiful sheen which would come from the greases and waxes that built up over time, due to constant handling. And theyd collect scratches with every journey, which would add uniqueness and character to each piece. The Timothy Oulton trunk collection takes the nostalgic travel trunk of yesteryear and transforms it into an innovative range of coffee tables and side tables for the modern home. Available in vintage-inspired leathers or contemporary finishes of steel, oxidised brass and cowhide.

Our Stylist Says

I love the vintage industrial vibe of the Harrow Trunk, making it a versatile statement piece. It works particularly well in eclectic or transitional interiors, where mixing old and new creates visual interest. For styling, consider pairing it with raw wood furniture or pairing with soft textiles to soften the look. It can serve as a unique coffee table, a sideboard, or even extra storage in a hallway. Practical tips include keeping styling minimal on top to highlight its hardware and texture, while stacking books or baskets nearby can enhance its utility and charm. It’s a robust piece that adds character and function to various spaces - perfect for someone looking to inject a bit of history and personality into their interior.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
