Description
Design. With an aged appearance and scientific design, the Gyro table lamp by Timothy Oulton is an intriguing way to bring light to your home. Enhancing the antique look, it echoes a traditional chandelier with six bulb holders in a candelabra design. The surrounding steel frame is comprised of metal rings fashioned in the style of classic physics instrument, the gyroscope. Complete with a rust finish that works well with so many colour schemes, the Gyro table lamp radiates a warm glow as well as a cool, industrial vibe.
Our Stylist Says
I love the Gyro Table Lamp for its industrial vibe and the way it functions as both a statement piece and a practical light source. Its vintage rust finish gives it a rugged, weathered look that works particularly well in eclectic, urban, or industrial-inspired interiors. It can be placed on a sideboard, console, or even a coffee table to add a touch of character. When styling, consider pairing it with other metallic or raw-textured accessories to create a cohesive look. Practical tip: its open, spherical design makes it perfect for spaces where you want the lighting to be both functional and sculptural, providing a focal point without overpowering the room.

A Remarkable Journey
Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.
Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.
Sustainability at the Forefront
From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.
Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.
Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.
Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons
Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.
They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
