The Aviator Tomcat takes its cue from military aviation history, inspired by the twin-cockpit seats of the F-14 Tomcat which was deployed by the U.S. Navy for some of its most prolific missions in the 1970s. The chairs aerodynamic curves are hugged in riveted aluminum, inspired by the World War II British Supermarine Spitfire, put through a five-stage process to distress the metal and create the unique Spitfire finish. The Aviator Tomcat was the winner of the Luxuria award for Most Innovative Product Design in 2010.
I love how this Aviator Tomcat armchair blends rugged industrial metal with warm brown leather - it brings instant character without feeling over the top. It works particularly well in loft-style living rooms, home offices or reading corners where you want a statement piece that still feels comfortable. For a balanced look, pair it with a textured wool rug in neutral tones, a simple metal or reclaimed-wood side table and a soft throw in slate grey or deep navy. Keep surrounding décor pared back - think exposed brick or matte-finished paint - so the chair really stands out.
