I’m a fan of this grey console for its clean lines and handy storage - the three shallow drawers are ideal for keys, post and other everyday bits, while the lower shelf takes baskets or extra books. Its muted paint finish with a natural wood top suits both modern-farmhouse and Scandi-style interiors, and it slips neatly into an entrance hall, behind a sofa or along a hallway wall.
For styling, pop a slim mirror or framed print above, add a pair of lamps or a sculptural vase on the surface, and cluster a tray with essentials such as a small dish for loose change. On the bottom shelf, woven baskets will hide clutter and introduce a warm texture.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
