An original abstract oil painting, inspired by Anton Chekhov's play, 'Three Sisters'. Based in Daphne, Alabama, Austrian artist Barbara Kuebel has shown her work extensively throughout Europe and the US. Inspired by 'awkward social interactions', she creates abstract expressionist figurative portraits rendered as life-sized woodworks that she carves by hand.
The third sister is a bold, expressive piece that works well in contemporary or eclectic interiors. I love it for adding a splash of colour and a touch of abstract intrigue to a neutral scheme. It’s particularly effective in spaces where you want to create a focal point, such as a living room wall or above a sideboard. When styling, consider pairing it with minimalist furniture to let the artwork stand out, or layer it with other colourful accessories for a more lively, curated look. Practical tip: framing it in a simple black or white frame can help it feel polished and ready to hang, ensuring it seamlessly integrates into a variety of interiors.
