Born in Surrey in 1962, Joanne Last originally trained at the Royal College of Music as a classical pianist and worked for many years as an accompanist and teacher. However, painting had always been an integral part of her life, and in 1990 she undertook a two-year course at The Putney School of Art and Design. Joanne has painted many different subject matters - landscape, abstract, and cityscape – but always finds herself drawn back to the sea which is demonstrated in this stunning range of wall art that will make a magnificent focal point in your home. A keen traveller, she particularly loves the rugged coast of North and West Cornwall and the barren beauty of the Scottish island of Islay. Her aim is not to simply record the view, but the experience of being in that place - the time of day, light, weight and surge of water, the feel of sun, rain or relentless wind.
I love this canvas print for its contemporary, abstract appeal that can add a splash of colour and texture to various interiors. It works particularly well in modern or minimalist spaces, where it can serve as a focal point on a neutral wall. For styling, consider pairing it with simple, understated furniture to let the artwork stand out, or combine it with other pieces in similar colour tones for a cohesive look. Practical tips include framing it with a slim border to add a polished finish or layering it with smaller artworks for a more curated gallery feel. Its size makes it versatile enough for living rooms, bedrooms, or even a home office, bringing both vibrancy and depth to the setting.
