The designers from the Pool studio introduce marquetry into the world of contemporary design. Precious and refined, their Tavla table interprets the traditional marquetry technique in a very contemporary way. Two colours of walnut wood are used (natural and black) to create a contrasting geometric pattern with a strong character. This ultra-graphic decoration presents an asymmetrical collage of large geometric shapes. Tavla's inspiration comes from the personal story of designer Léa Padovani, who is partly Iranian, and admired the work on backgammon tables (Tavla being the Iranian word for backgammon). The Tavla table is the result of the search for a balance between graphics, materials and a passion for craftsmanship. POOL is a dual composition by Léa Padovani (1981), a French designer of Iranian and Italian origin, and Sébastien Kieffer (1982), who’s French, based in Paris. Beyond the obviousness of the object, its beauty or function, they seek the polysemy of their works and challenge their affectivity and their referent.
