Created by Turkish designer Begüm Cana Özgür, the Haze collection is inspired by the harmony of nature's colours when mist appears. In perfect visual balance, the colours coexist and interact: they emerge and gradually disappear. Haze is a rug designed directly on the loom: the designer experimented extensively with chromatic interactions and fading by mixing colours. This collection is the culmination of a reflection on the meaning of colour contrast (tone, value, temperature and saturation). The simplicity of the graphic aspect gives way to the power of colour. Designer Bégum Cana Özgür: "At the loom, I developed a weaving technique which gradually shifted the predominance of one colour to another. The emotion produced by this fading effect resembled scenes in which atmospheric haze flattens the colours of nature." The design was developed from two angles: on the one hand, the colours themselves and their interactions, and on the other, the design, i.e. the superficial graphic lines which follow the warp. The challenge was to find the right balance between graphics, number of warps and weft thickness. Haze is woven with 50% New Zealand wool and 50% Italian wool, a noble, warm material, easy to look after and durable. As Begum Cana Özgür points out, “This fibre re-establishes in us this connection with the earth and nature that we often lack in modern buildings.” nanimarquina combats child labour and is committed to improving the standard of living and education of people working in the rug manufacturing sector in India, Pakistan and Nepal. All nanimarquina rugs carry the Care & Fair logo, proving that the rugs have not been woven by children. 1% of sales is donated to finance the Care & Fair association's schools, training and health programmes, and hospitals.
