Description

Finn Juhl, the master of Danish Modern, originally designed the large walnut and brass Table Bench in 1953 after having been inspired by the work of American designers he encountered. Exquisitely designed, the Table Bench formed part of the large-scale Design in Scandinavia show, an exhibition curated by Finn Juhl himself that travelled across North American between 1954 and 1957, and was attended by approximately 650,000 visitors. Equally suited to use as a coffee table, sideboard, bench and display unit, the Table Bench's top is expertly crafted from walnut and finished elegant matte polished brass edging. Resting on black steel legs with feet finished in matching walnut, the Table Bench would lend a design edge to any space. The first Danish furniture designer to achieve international recognition, Finn Juhl is seen by many as the master of Danish Modern. A self-taught designer, he originally studied to become an architect but worked with the mindset of a sculptor when creating his designs. Rather than thinking in terms of practicality, Finn Juhl broke free from the constraints of conventional working methods to create truly innovative designs.

Our Stylist Says

I really like this bench because of its sleek combination of walnut and brass, which adds a touch of sophistication without feeling overdone. It works particularly well in contemporary or minimal interiors, where its clean lines can complement existing wood and metallic accents. Practical styling tips include using it as a statement piece at the foot of a bed, a handy extra in an entryway, or as a low sidetable in a living space. Pair it with a few decorative trays, books, or plants for an effortless, styled look, while its sturdy construction makes it functional as well as stylish.
