Created using oil, charcoal and conte, this canvas recreates the marks, lines and shapes the artist made in the wet sand of her hometown beach. Part of a series of original landscapes that takes inspiration for its title from a poem by W.B. Yeats. The artwork itself draws on the artist's memories of the landscape in the area she grew up, and so "the canvas becomes the beach that served as the canvas of my childhood". About the artist Day Bowman often takes inspiration from the coastal landscape of a childhood spent growing up in a "holiday destination seaside town". The recipient of multiple awards, her artworks are a mix of abstract and figurative paintings that experiment with different mediums.
The study planky place is a bold and contemporary piece that works particularly well in modern and minimalist interiors where it can serve as an eye-catching focal point. I love how it combines abstract elements with a balanced colour palette, making it versatile for various colour schemes. For styling, consider pairing it with simple, understated furnishings to let the artwork do the talking, or place it above a neutral sofa or sideboard to add visual interest. Practical tips include framing it at eye level in a well-lit space to maximise its impact or creating a gallery wall around it if you want to add more personality. Overall, it’s a versatile piece that can bring an avant-garde punch to both urban apartments and sleek corporate interiors.
