This elegant side table by Danish designer Mette Schelde perfectly combines wood and glass. Slender and refined, the cylindrical wooden base evokes a tree stump ("stub" means stump). Airy and discreet, the glass top literally seems to float: with its absolute transparency, this disc is dematerialised and erased. Thanks to an ingenious design solution, the attachment between column and top is perfectly invisible, accentuating the impression of the top floating. The glass disc is warped in its centre: it fits onto the column so subtly that the cutout in the middle is made invisible. Designer Mette Schelde explains: "I wanted the assembly of the two materials to create a functional, uniform table top with a very airy appearance. It took a lot of testing during the design process to get this assembly right. " Stub is a piece with a truly Nordic aesthetic. This side table is ideal in a living room, reading area. Christian Andresen, design manager at Fritz Hansen, explains: “It's an incredibly beautiful design with great sophistication in the details. It may seem simple, but the design and craftsmanship required is very clever - not simple at all. ’’ The Stub side table was first presented at the Crossovers exhibition in London (2019).
