Nils Strinning’s string® shelf system was originally created in 1949, and is now considered a design classic thanks to its versatility and understated aesthetic. The selection of shelves and storage sections can be combined, expanded or reconfigured to suit your exact requirements. We've combined a selection of string System products to create this functional storage unit for your home. Overall dimensions: H85 x W234 x D30cm. Self-assembly is required. What's included: 3 x Storage Cabinets Made from veneered chipboard, these cabinets are designed with smooth, sliding doors that open to reveal two separate storage sections. Each section contains an adjustable internal shelf. Each cabinet: H42 x W78 x D30cm Floor panel side racks These side racks are made from sturdy steel and attach to the wall. They serve as the centre and end pieces for this unit. H85 x D30cm Shelves, set of 3 These shelves are made from veneered chipboard and clip securely on to the side panels. Once assembled, we recommend a maximum load of 15kg spread evenly across each shelf. Our Stylist Says

This shelving unit is a stylish and versatile piece that works well in both contemporary and mid-century inspired interiors. I love its clean lines, warm walnut finish, and the added practicality of storage cabinets and side racks, making it perfect for organised living or working spaces. It’s ideal for pairing with minimalist decor, but can also serve as a statement piece in a more eclectic environment. For styling, consider grouping books, decorative objects, and plants on the open shelves to soften its structured look. Since it’s quite tall, placing it against a neutral wall helps keep the space feeling open and airy. It's a solid choice for those wanting a practical yet polished storage solution that doesn’t compromise on style.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
