I really like this Stretton sideboard for its mix of warm oak-effect panels and slim black metal frame - it sits neatly in both industrial-inspired and Scandi-style rooms. The two doors hide useful storage, so it’s just right for stashing dining ware, office supplies or media kit. To style it, keep the top simple with a low-profile lamp or a sculptural vase, then add a couple of neat baskets inside to keep things organised. It works well in a hallway as a slim console or under a wall-hung TV in the living room.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
