Bill Curry's Stemlite Pendant Light for GUBI is nearing its 60th anniversary, celebrating six decades of the pioneering design. Curry was intent on creating a unified 'total look' lamp by replacing the traditional base-and-shade form with a self-contained unit. The result is the fluid Stemlite, modelled with a tulip-like stem fashioned from metal and crowned with a frosted glass globe, an emblem of America's West Coast in the 1960s.
I love this pendant light for its sleek and modern aesthetic, pairing the high-shine black chrome with a simple, sculptural form that feels both contemporary and timeless. It works particularly well in minimalist or industrial interiors, but can also add a polished touch to eclectic or mid-century schemes. Practical styling tips include hanging it over a kitchen island or dining table to create a focal point, and pairing it with statement bulbs or dimmable lighting for versatility. Its clean lines make it versatile enough to sit comfortably in both residential and commercial spaces, adding a touch of understated sophistication.
