Description

Hand crafted in Italy, the Smithfield black leather 2 seater sofa has a sculptural silhouette with feather and fibre filled seat cushions for comfort. Designed by Aaron Probyn for the Habitat Design Reunion project to celebrate our 50th birthday, the range is inspired by classic 60s racing car designs. With rounded, rolled arms and a high back, Smithfield is hand crafted using age-old techniques. Comprising an armchair and 2 sofas, the timeless range complements both traditional and modern schemes and is available in fabric or leather in a choice of colours.

Our Stylist Says

The black leather two-seater is a real versatile piece that works well in both contemporary and classic interiors. Its sleek, minimal design lends itself to modern schemes, while the leather adds an effortless touch of sophistication. I love pairing it with neutral-coloured cushions and textured throws to soften its bold look. It’s also practical - easy to clean and maintain, making it ideal for a busy family home or a stylish apartment. For styling tips, try contrasting it with warm-toned accessories or natural wooden tables to create a balanced, inviting space. Its understated elegance makes it a reliable anchor for almost any interior style.

About Habitat

Founded in 1964, Habitat are a renowned brand, and a go-to destination for modern and stylish furniture and home accessories.

The Birth of Habitat

In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.

The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.

Rapid Expansion & Legacy

Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.

The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.

Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.

Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.

Innovation & Collaboration

Habitat has always been at the forefront of modern design. Throughout its history, the brand has been renowned for its collaborations with acclaimed artists and designers, ensuring it consistently offers unique, limited-edition collections.

Under the umbrella of the Sainsbury's Group since 2017, Habitat continues its tradition of merging contemporary aesthetics with functional design, solidifying its reputation as a leading name in home furnishings.
