I’m a fan of the Orwell footboard in brown because its clean lines and soft, suede-style upholstery give a small double bed a touch of structure without feeling bulky. It works especially well in contemporary or Scandi-inspired bedrooms, where its neutral tone can sit alongside pale woods, muted linens and simple metal accents.
For styling, keep bedding light to contrast the brown - think oatmeal or dove-grey - then layer in a woven throw at the foot to introduce texture. Low-slung bedside tables in matte black or brushed brass will maintain the uncluttered look, while a shallow basket underneath the bed makes the most of the extra clearance for out-of-season storage.
