Description
The Slant lamp features a sculptural, sophisticated construction that explores the notion of balance. Very graphic, it presents a stack of two inclined cylindrical volumes which perform a balancing act. The solid, destructured silhouette gives a sense of precarious balance that is just an illusion. Inside the base is concealed a cast iron counterweight that provides perfect stability and keeps the angle perfectly balanced. All the lamp's electrical components are hidden inside to maintain the clean, elemental silhouette. An internal PMMA diffuser provides uniform, glare-free lighting. The Slant lamp has a dimmer. The Slant lamp is the result of a collaboration between HAY and Branch - a design team including Japanese designer Tsunao Nagasaki as well as graduates and students of the Integrated Design Department at Tama Art University in Tokyo, where he taught. Inspired by the power of shapes and their impact on their environment, the Slant lamp presents a bold, graphic aesthetic that takes control of the space it occupies.
