The design of Silex vases required Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz to carry out a lot of research work on shapes. Viewed from above, the vases are neither actual cylinders nor squares. The faceted angles contrast deftly with the rounded glass. "A shape that’s difficult to produce", comments Sylvain Willenz. The Silex vase is indeed the result of an exceptional piece of work in hand-blown glass. "Managing to blow enough glass against these faceted angles requires a lot of lung capacity. It’s a problem we don’t necessarily encounter with round forms. " Another big challenge is that the weight of Silex vases requires a lot of force from the glass blowers. Experienced and specialised, they can then produce vases in the proper form. The two colours (amber and smoked blue) complement each other perfectly. The refracted light gives each vase a different appearance depending on the angle of vision.
The Silex small vase is a versatile piece that works well in both modern and eclectic interiors. I love its rich blue hue, which adds colour without overpowering a space, and its clean, simple shape makes it easy to style with a variety of flowers or greenery. It’s perfect for creating understated centrepieces on dining tables or for adding a touch of colour to shelves and side tables. Practical styling tip: try grouping it with other vases of different heights or textures for a curated, layered look, or leave it on its own with a single stem for a minimalist effect. Its size also makes it ideal for smaller spaces or desks, adding visual interest without clutter.
