Description

Artist Sian Mc Gill captures the beauty of Pwll Deri on the southwest coast of Wales in this work. Made in the UK, it has a grey wood-effect frame and is ready to hang on your wall. Protecting the image, it's glazed with lightweight plastic, a less fragile material compared to glass but equally as transparent. Sian Mc Gill was born on St David's Day 1973 in Pontypool, South Wales. After gaining a degree in English at Swansea University, she returned to a childhood love of art, pursuing this alongside bringing up her young family. Painting soon became a passion and has now become a full-time occupation. She regularly exhibits at galleries in Wales and Cornwall, and has had work selected for the Royal Cambrian Academy. Much of her inspiration comes directly from the places where she loves to spend time, outdoors enjoying the coastline and mountains of Wales. The paintings are a response to the landscape, an attempt to capture something of the experience and the energy of a place- how it feels to be there on that day. An expressive and intuitive painter, she works mostly with a palette knife but also paints with brushes or fingers or whatever else comes to hand to get the desired effect. She enjoys experimenting with mark-making, colour and texture to create a variety of effects. This often leads to a degree of unpredictability, allowing the paintings to emerge almost by themselves. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?

Our Stylist Says

The Pwll Deri print offers a vibrant yet calming colour palette that complements a variety of interior styles, from modern coastal schemes to more eclectic, bohemian spaces. I love how its landscape composition adds depth and a touch of nature’s serenity to any room. For styling, consider pairing it with neutral or muted furnishings to let the artwork shine, or incorporate matching blue and green accents for a cohesive look. Its sizeable frame makes it a great focal point above a sofa or mantelpiece, and it's ideal for bringing visual interest to living rooms or bedrooms. Practical tip: hang it at eye level and ensure it’s well-lit to highlight its colours and textures effectively.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
