Unique craftsmanship in the art of blown glass... Renowned designer Patricia Urquiola explores the ancient techniques of Murano glass-blowing in a contemporary spirit. The Sestiere collection includes four vases handcrafted on the small island of Murano by passionate artisans. This Vase features a smooth sphere of mouth-blown glass encased in a lattice of grooved cords in contrasting colors, creating a graphic impression of the most beautiful effect. Decorated with the "rigadin" striped pattern typical of the lagoon, the cords follow the curves of Sestiere. Two glassmaking processes, two different aesthetic languages, able to coexist harmoniously to create an unprecedented partnership. Made from Murano glass, each cord, or "morisa", is hand-applied to the outside of the vase while the glass is still warm and malleable. These lumpy, imperfect cords form a primitive latticework that imposes itself on the eye. Wild and untamed, Sestiere Vases embody an organic sensibility and evoke poetic sensations. Artist Patricia Urquiola's creativity is brought to life by the master craftsmen of Murano. Sestiere perpetuates traditional glasswork and reinterprets it creatively in a living tribute to Venice. The name of the collection, "Sestiere", also pays homage to the city: this ancient term refers to the six districts that make it up (Cannaregio, Santa Croce, San Polo, Dorsoduro, San Marco and Castello).Handcrafted: each piece is unique.
