The nature of glass and light... A vintage, refined style for this collection of Seine lamps designed by Space Copenhagen. Seine pays homage to the Parisian river, whose ripples inspired the Danish design duo during a spring walk. Seine is imbued with an updated vintage aesthetic, mixing Scandinavian functionality and a retro feel. The Seine lamp consists of a glass dome fixed by four metal arms to a steel base with an antique brass finish. The bulb is housed in a spherical frosted glass diffuser that creates a soft, textured glow that is further enriched by playing with the pattern on the surface of the outer shade. The hand-blown glass lampshade is encrusted with relief motifs. These streaks that run across the surface of the glass reproduce the behaviour of light in moving water. A poetic effect that has been captured thanks to the craft technique of hand-blown glass. The glass lampshade is available in two colours: smoked and coral. The smoked, translucent, slightly tinted glass reveals the internal structure of the lamp. In the coral version, the inside has been sandblasted to create a veiled effect. The Seine lamp draws on the power of glass to soften, layer and blur light, creating a dreamy, reflective ambiance. Space Copenhagen: “This project is an intangible story about moods, sensitivity and tactility, about depth and layers. The ambition was to create a sober, simple, refined lamp with a strong poetic touch. We are fascinated by glass and its inherent, almost magical qualities. This collection allows us to make a statement about the nature of glass and what it can do.‘’
I love the Seine ceiling light for its modern yet timeless appeal, with the hand-blown grey glass adding a subtle touch of texture and sophistication. It works particularly well in contemporary and minimalist interiors, bringing a soft diffusion of light that enhances the space without overwhelming it. Practical styling tips include pairing it with neutral colour schemes or layered lighting within a living room or bedroom to create a cosy atmosphere. Additionally, installing it in spaces like hallways or over dining tables can elevate the overall aesthetic, offering a sleek focal point that balances form and function.
