Classic silhouettes inspired Matthew Hilton to design the formal-style Oscar Sofa for SCP. Retaining its classic charm with a touch of modernity, Oscar features button cushioning as well as expertly turned decorative wooden legs. The sofa’s pared-back form with long straight lines and natural curves lends it a contemporary edge. Slightly taller and slimmer than the informal version, this sofa is perfect for more formal living spaces. Constructed using European Hardwood, bio-degradable jute webbing and hessian straps, and lined with renewable materials such as natural fibres and wool. Handcrafted in Norfolk with Heal’s upholstery. Designed by Matthew Hilton for SCP. Completed with decorative wooden feet. The Formal version of the Oscar range offers a taller and more upright seat position.
I love this sofa for its sophisticated blend of formal elegance and contemporary comfort. The luxe velvet in Peridot adds a rich, vibrant touch that works beautifully in both modern and classic interiors, especially in spaces with clean lines and muted tones. Its walnut-stained feet lend a subtle warmth and grounding, making it versatile for various colour schemes. Practical styling tips include pairing it with scatter cushions in complementary textures or colours to enhance its formal aesthetic, and positioning it in a living room with neutral or soft-hued walls to really let the velvet stand out. It’s especially well-suited for elegant, understated schemes or more eclectic interiors that aim for a touch of luxe without feeling overly opulent.
