Sashiko wall art pays homage to the traditions and meticulous craftsmanship of Miao women. The “hundred pleats” skirt is sewn then embroidered and dyed by hand, the hundreds of pleats are made using taut threads. A long artistic process for a spectacular design. These festive costumes are often passed down from generation to generation. These costumes are made from scratch by the young Miao girls, weaving, research of patterns, hand embroidery of the belt and the floral plastron. This process can usually take one to two years. 13 to 15 metres of Batik fabric are needed to make the 500 pleats required for the so-called "hundred pleat" skirt.
