The original Suzani was ceremonial — large, heavily worked, made to mark an occasion and then folded away. The women embroidering in Jaipur today kept the skill and tradition and updated the colours and designs. The scale is generous enough to pull across a sofa on a cold evening. The kind of colours that work in a London sitting room in November as well as they do in a Jaipur courtyard in March. The craft is unchanged. A needle, a hand, and the fresh modern perspective for modern life.. JJ keeps this on the arm of a reading chair, but just as useful on the bed.
