Originally conceived in 1953 for the living quarters of officers and NCOs at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, the S-Table by Marcel Gascoin for GUBI presents clean lines and innovative extending functionality, perfectly suited to the adaptable home. A hallmark of mid-century design, the S-Table is reimagined by GUBI featuring elegant tapered legs and a sturdy solid and veneered wood frame. The space-saving rectangular tabletop splits across the centre to create space for two insert leaves, which are neatly stored underneath when not in use. One of the post-war era's leading designers, Marcel Gascoin's designs became a staple in French homes during the 1950s. His fascination with utilitarian characteristics and flexible functionality began in childhood, where he grew up around boats, admiring their efficient use of space. Incredibly forward-thinking and passionate about accessible design and exploring new means of production, today Gascoin's furniture is praised for its simple lines and minimalist aesthetic.
