The round S table by Muller Van Severen is a sober, basic piece of furniture that excels in its details and finishes. There’s no visible trace of welding. Made of aluminium, it’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Unlike the minimalist form, the solid aluminium top is lacquered with a hammered coating. Designer Fien Muller explains: “It’s an old technique, used mainly for industrial tools and machines, which covers imperfections. We often try to use traditional techniques in a new design. "The light relief of the hammered paint coating recalls the finish of a hammered metal surface. It forms rounded designs thanks to a very specific orientation of the lamellar aluminium pigments after complete drying. The final hammered appearance hides the various surface defects. Indeed, the paint easily covers the hollows, reliefs or other imperfections of the metal surface. It provides an ultra-covering formula ensuring a remarkable finish without streaking, lining or sagging. Known as Muller Van Severen, the Flemish design duo Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen work at the intersection of art and design. They are among the most prominent creators of the moment. From galleries to museums, not to mention collectors, design enthusiasts and design houses, everyone loves their minimalist, colourful furniture, timeless and joyful. In less than a decade, Muller Van Severen has become a key player in design, to the point of winning numerous awards and increasing collaborations with prestigious museums (Pompidou Centre, Vitra museum, etc. ). They created the Wooden table series to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Belgian label Valérie Objects with whom they collaborate closely.
