Treat yourself to an ORIGINAL iconic piece by Cappellini. An original will never lose its value. It will stay with you for your whole life, and even longer, perfect for passing on to the next generation. English designer Tom Dixon is known for his atypical career path, rebellious universe and avant-garde style. Its design brings industrial shapes together with artisan and raw materials. His "S-Chair", designed in 1991 for Cappellini, has become a modern design icon. This sculptural and unique seat made a name for Tom Dixon, launching him from self-production to the Italian luxury industry. It was such a hit that the S-Chair soon became a best-seller for Italian brand Cappellini, and it was admitted into the permanent collections of various museums, from the MoMA modern art museum in New York to the V&A national art museum in London. This S-shaped chair has a minimalist and fluid line. It's composed of a dark brown structure covered with wicker, a natural and traditional material which contrasts with its futuristic look. The structure proudly stands on its wheel-shaped base. The suppleness of the structure provides a great seated comfort. Tom Dixon: "I've often been asked what inspired me when I created the S-Chair, and to be honest, the only thing I remember is drawing a little scribble in the shape of a chicken […] and saying to myself that I could make a chair out of it. I think that the secret to the success was creating an unexpected and non-conventional shape with a traditional and familiar material - wicker. In my designs, the ones that work slightly better seem to be the ones that can be read in various different ways, going against the baseline intention. The starting point for my S-Chair was a chicken, but many describe it as a feminine figure, others as a flame, and I often hear that people see an influence of 1960s pop objects in it. " The work of the extremely talented Tom Dixon came to be known around the world thanks to the famous S-Chair, released by the Cappellini creative house. Its avant-garde design combines the generous forms of the letter "S". Its success opened up the doors to larger museums, as well as those to private homes. In 1980, Tom Dixon was a guitarist in a rock band, he worked as a nightclub host as well, all while learning welding techniques by day with a mechanic friend. He started his career by designing metal furniture in his garage, using recovered materials. Self-taught, Tom Dixon was unknown in the world of design. Thanks to the creation of the S-Chair in 1991, made for Cappellini, this rebel spirit finally found its success. It imposes a quirky and extravagant style.
