I’m a big fan of the Roman bed - its softly channel-stitched, winged headboard and low platform base give it a clean yet slightly sculptural look. The king-size proportions make it a strong focal point, and the rich velvet finish works especially well in modern classic, art-deco or even Scandi-inspired bedrooms where a touch of luxury is called for. To style it, keep bedding simple in white or pale grey linens, then add one or two jewel-toned cushions to pick up the upholstery shade. Flank the bed with slim-lined bedside tables and warm metallic lamps to complement the velvet without overwhelming it.
