Part of an ongoing series of original oil paintings that reflect on the artist's time spent on the Cornish coast. Using oil paints in colours integral to the piece, this painting is a response to the landscapes of Cornwall. The artist drew inspiration from works in Tate St. Ives, with particular reference to the geological forms in Wilhelmina Barns-Graham's 1950s paintings. About the artist Both living and working in Bristol, Clare Thatcher is a figurative painter influenced by the landscapes and locations that have a profound effect on her, particularly those in coastal areas.
I really like Rockscape for its understated yet textured appeal; it adds an organic, tactile element to any space. It's versatile enough to work well in both contemporary and minimalist interiors, as well as more eclectic settings where its subtle colours and layered surface can act as a calming focal point. When styling, consider placing it against neutral or soft-toned walls to highlight its nuanced textures, and pair it with simple, natural materials like wood or linen for a balanced look. For practical tips, avoid hanging it in areas prone to direct sunlight or high humidity to preserve its surface quality. Overall, it’s a thoughtfully crafted piece that can effortlessly elevate the atmosphere of a room without overwhelming it.
