This weighty Danish design channels old Hollywood glamour and luxury, when exquisite architecture and décor defined the atmosphere of both films and homes during the 1920s and ‘30s. The Danish designers of the Harlem Deco Crystal Vase, Julie Hugau and Andrea Larsson, were inspired by the massive skyscrapers that make up the “wild skyline” of New York City, and graphic expressions of Art Deco. Playing on the sleek, geometric aspects of Deco, the Harlem Crystal Vase fans out from its clear central pillars with angular pink, green and black details. A stunning statement for your mantelpiece, dining table or prominent shelf, the 8. 6”-tall vase is heavy enough to support extravagant displays of flowers or branches. The Harlem Vase is an example of a dominant trend in the design world right now — maximalism. For this vase and other works, Danish designers Julie Hugau and Andrea Larsson seek to challenge the styles and shapes of traditional minimalism by adding new dimensions and possibilities. In this case, it is the graphic expression of the Art Deco style and that era’s glamorous new skyscrapers.
