Manufactured from pressure treated softwood, this table has a 15 year anti-rot guarantee and eliminates the need for annual re-treatment. I’m a fan of this refectory table for its robust, no-fuss construction and generous 180 cm length - it comfortably seats six for al fresco lunches or doubles as a sturdy potting bench. Its clean lines and natural timber finish work equally well in a rustic farmhouse courtyard or a minimalist urban terrace. To style, add weather-proof seat pads or fold-away benches in complementary colours, centre a low planter of herbs or succulents down the middle, and layer a simple linen runner for texture. String lights overhead and leather-strap placemats will complete the look with little effort.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
