I’m a fan of the Raithwaite oak bed for its solid, clean-lined slatted headboard and warm oak finish - it feels both robust and unfussy. It sits neatly in Scandi, modern farmhouse or coastal-inspired bedrooms, where natural textures and a pared-back palette are key. For styling, keep bedding crisp in whites or soft greys, then layer one or two muted-tone cushions and a chunky knit throw to add depth. Place matching oak or matt-black bedside tables and simple brass lamps either side. A jute rug underfoot and a couple of potted plants complete the look, reinforcing the bed’s natural charm without overcomplicating the space.

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.
Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.
Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.
