Description

Incredibly versatile and eternally stylish, the Canterbury oak dining table weaves seamlessly into any setting, whether raw and industrial, traditional and rustic, or relaxed yet refined. Its naturally oiled finish brings out the beauty of every knot, grain, and split, telling the story of the wood's origins. Sturdy and durable, this table is built to stand the test of time, complementing any colour scheme or chair design with ease. Equally perfect for casual family meals or formal entertaining, the Canterbury makes it effortless to achieve your desired ambience. Pair it with the matching bench for a harmonious, timeless look

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the Canterbury table for its clean-lined, solid oak top and sturdy trestle base - it feels timeless without being fussy. It works equally well in a modern farmhouse setting or a pared-back Scandi scheme, and you can soften its simplicity with woven runners or a grouping of ceramic vases down the centre. For a more eclectic look, mix in mismatched chairs in metal or leather; for a streamlined feel, stick to a single style in muted tones. Position it under a statement pendant light and layer natural textures - think linen placemats and a jute rug - to ground the space.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
