Characterised by a hand-beaten texture and distinctive conical-shaped feet, the Stanley round stool is inspired by the furniture designs of Diego Giacometti and can be custom made in any size or painted finish of your choice. Shown here in Old Rust with Gold. Many Porta Romana pieces are fully customisable. Products can be scaled up or down, proportions can be changed, and designs can be painted to your choice. I’m really taken with the Stanley stool’s sculptural iron frame and gilt-brass highlights - it feels hand-forged rather than factory made, which brings character to any scheme. The low, padded seat makes it just as useful as an occasional footstool, a bedside perch or an extra seat around a coffee table.
It works equally well in pared-back Scandi or more layered, maximalist rooms: pair it with a textured weave rug and a cluster of low tables, or drop it beside a dressing table to echo brass-finish hardware. Keep the upholstery neutral and let the patina take centre stage.
