The Giacometti bookshelf is characterised by the hammered and textured square metal bar constructed in a geometric frame. Can be custom made in any size or painted finish of your choice. Many Porta Romana pieces are fully customisable. Products can be scaled up or down, proportions can be changed, and designs can be painted to your choice. I’m a fan of the Giacometti shelf for its rugged brass-effect frame paired with rich, dark timber planks - it sits just as comfortably in a pared-back London flat as it does in a more eclectic, gallery-style interior. The slim, open design means it won’t overwhelm a room, making it a great choice for hallways or compact living spaces.
When styling, alternate upright books with low stacks to create visual rhythm, and slot in a statement ceramic vase or a small potted plant to break up the lines. Keep heavier volumes on the lower shelf to maintain stability, and add a touch of complementary metalwork elsewhere in the room (perhaps a brass lamp or mirror frame) to tie the look together.
