Folding chair Plia, the Italian legend in transparencyBorn from the imagination of Giancarlo Piretti in 1967, Plia is more than just a Folding chair. It's a manifesto of Italian design that reconciles functionality and visual poetry, and invites itself naturally into the most demanding interiors. Cult lines, signature materialsWith its steel structure and polycarbonate seat, Plia has a clean, graphic, almost aerial silhouette. The Toy between Metal and Transparent adds a chic presence without weighing down the space, with that extra touch of seventies soul that makes all the difference. This alliance of materials has shaped its identity, both industrial and surprisingly light. A folding revolutionWhen it was presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1967, it was such a success that visitors left with the chairs on display, to the extent that the stand had to be secured! For its time, it was revolutionary because it rethought the folding chair as a design object in its own right, thanks to its three-disc pivot that made opening and closing a fluidity never seen before, and thanks to its transparency that visually lightened the space, to the point of becoming almost invisible once folded. Once folded, the chair disappears almost completely, as it is completely transparent and only five centimetres thick. It was the first time that transparency had been pushed to this level. A revolution comparable to the first i Mac or Air Max. The history of modern furniture, between collection and culturePlia became a global benchmark, selling over four million units and winning awards such as the BIO5 prize at the Ljubljana Biennial in 1971 and the Gute Form prize in Germany in 1973. It has also crossed the boundaries of design to enter the contemporary imagination, appearing in fashion campaigns and confirming that a great classic can remain intensely desirable. Choose your own version and treat yourself to a chair that catches the light, is discreet when it needs to be, and signs the space with unspoiled elegance.
