A luminous masterpiece of Scandinavian designA luminaire by Poul HenningsenCreated in 1924 by Poul Henningsen, the PH Snowball Pendant is one of the great icons of Scandinavian design. Like the famous PH Artichoke, it embodies the Danish designer's quest to create soft, comfortable, glare-free lighting. A true pioneer of light as a sensory experience, Henningsen has devoted his life to designing luminaires capable of softening artificial light. A sculptural, harmonious silhouetteComprising eight superimposed Lampshades, the PH Snowball Pendant adopts a slightly elongated spherical shape, reminiscent of his earlier creations such as the Contrast Lamp or the PH Louvre. It is mounted on three Chromed metal rods, providing a structure that is both discreet and elegant. First exhibited in 1958 at the Danish Museum of Decorative Arts during the "Glass, Light and Colour" exhibition, it was relaunched in production by Louis Poulsen in 1983 and has continued to win over design enthusiasts ever since. Controlled, glare-free lightThe strength of PH Snowball lies in its ability to diffuse a soft, even light without ever dazzling. The inner surfaces of the Lampshades are matt to absorb light, while the glossy upper surfaces subtly reflect it. The result is a masterful Toy of shadows and reflections, in which the upper part of the luminaire seems to float, illuminated, while the lower part remains in semi-darkness.
