Danish designer Poul Henningsen was an iconic figure in Danish cultural life during the two world wars. From the 1920s, Poul Henningsen would seek "lighting perfection" by creating lamps with a soft, comfortable light quasi-scientifically. PH Septima is considered one of Poul Henningsen's finest pendants. When it was first shown publicly as a prototype at the Danish Museum of Decorative Arts (now Designmuseum Danmark) in 1928, the work's poetry proved a resounding success. This crown with seven lampshades produces glare-free lighting directed downwards, while emitting a very pleasant delicate glow. Between each level of the lampshade assembly, white frosted glass sections cover the transparent glass parts, for even softer light diffusion. The whole thing is made of very delicate Italian borosilicate glass that’s also very strong. The different levels of the lampshade are arranged by alternating the transparent frosted sections, so that the frosted sections cover the transparent sections below, to disperse the light in a more diffuse way while maintaining glare-free lighting directed downwards. In addition, a strategically positioned glass dome at the top of the lamp prevents dust etc. Getting into it. During the development of PH Septima, Poul Henningsen also created a metal version which never reached the production stage. However, this research was reused almost thirty years later for the development of his famous PH Artichoke pendant, specially designed for the Langelinie Pavilion restaurant in Copenhagen. However, in the 1940s, production of the popular PH Septima and many other lamps had to cease due to a shortage of raw materials. In 2020, Louis Poulsen brought the PH Septima pendant back to life, this majestic, sophisticated crown with its seven lampshades, with an optimised support and reinforced glass for greater resistance and stability over time.
