Enter the legend of Scandinavian design! The PH Artichoke (Pine Cone) pendant was originally designed in 1958 for “Langelinie Pavillonen”, a modernist restaurant in Copenhagen where it continues to delight visitors to this day. The legendary PH Artichoke pendant has since become a real icon. This timeless masterpiece is one of the iconic pieces of work by Poul Henningsen, a grand figure of Danish design: it is the result of deep research into how light diffuses. Its sculptural design expresses itself in new ways with each new finish. This LED version creates the same atmosphere for which the pendant is famous, while maintaining the same level of lighting quality. The characteristic shape and design of the pendant ensure completely glare-free lighting from any viewing angle, thanks to the 72 slats in their carefully thought-out position, which also inspired the pendant's name. Inspired by nature, the lampshade consists of several rows of overlapping leaves: 72 leaves in total mounted on 12 chromed steel arches. The leaves serve as light reflectors: their positioning has been designed to allow for a lighting that is both intense and direct while stopping the light from being glaring. Depending on the viewing angle, Artichoke offers a different light effect which highlights the aesthetics of the model. The leaves form a geometric, airy shape around the light source which they completely hide. PH Artichoke is still partially assembled by hand to this day to ensure a high level of quality. The quality of the lighting and elegance of the pendant are second to none. With its perfect frosted black finish, this version reinforces a bold style for an avant-garde interior, without compromising on design and quality of lighting. All PH Artichoke pendants come with a unique engraved identification number and certificate. You can register the light with its identification number on the Louis Poulsen website.
I love this pendant because of its iconic design and versatile elegance. Its sculptural form works beautifully in contemporary or minimalist interiors, adding visual interest without overwhelming a space. It’s particularly effective over dining tables or in high-ceilinged rooms where its statement presence can be fully appreciated. Practical styling tips include pairing it with neutral colour schemes to let the fixture stand out or using it as a focal point in modern, sleek interiors. Its integrated LED source ensures it’s both stylish and functional, providing an even, glare-free light that complements various colour palettes and decor styles.
