"Danish designer Poul Henningsen was an iconic figure in Danish cultural life during the two world wars. From the 1920s, Poul Henningsen would seek "lighting perfection" by creating lamps with a soft, comfortable light quasi-scientifically. He created lamps with 3 shades on top of one another: this was the famous "System PH" collection which won the gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs & Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative & Industrial Arts) in Paris in 1925. The superimposed lampshades, made from metal or glass, act as reflectors and direct most of the light downwards. This system guarantees a diffuse, gentle light with no glare. The PH lamps can still be found today in nearly half of all Danish households. Created in 1927, the PH 3/2 table lamp was one of the first lamps by Louis Poulsen. This lamp’s shades are made of 3 layers of blown glass. With the upper lampshade, you get a completely direct light, directed downwards. With the second lampshade, you get a diffuse light. This unique creation, which has left its mark on the history of design, has wonderfully retained all its aesthetic, practical modernity. ".
I love this table lamp for its sleek, vintage-inspired design that balances elegance with practicality. Its glass and brass construction lends a sophisticated feel, making it a versatile choice for both modern and classic interiors. It works particularly well on side tables, desks, or bedside cabinets, where its understated luxury can be showcased. For styling tips, consider pairing it with neutral-toned furniture to highlight its Gold accents or with bold, patterned textiles for a contrasting, contemporary look. Its layered glass shade provides a soft diffusion of light, making it ideal for creating warm, inviting atmospheres without overpowering the space.
