Description

Enter into the legend of design with the Petite Potence wall lamp designed by Jean Prouvé in 1947. Treat yourself to an ORIGINAL iconic piece by Vitra. An original always keeps its value. An imitation is, and always will be, a cheap copy, a stolen idea. The difference is found in the quality and the obvious variations from the original model, but also in the emotional side of the authentic product. An original will stay with you for your whole life and will outlive you, being passed on to the next generation. A self-taught architect with a passion for industrialising buildings, Jean Prouvé (1901 - 1984) is now considered a leading architect and one of the greatest designers of the 20th century, on par with Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. A pioneer, Prouvé played a major role in the development of mass production techniques in the European post-war modernist movement. Jean Prouvé developed a "constructive thought" based on a logic of manufacturing and functionality to create an aesthetic that is purified of all artifices. He has managed to combine his expectations in terms of functionality, material suitability and economy with the complex requirements of mass production. The designer has a wide portfolio of designs ranging from prefabricated homes to furniture for offices, classrooms and interiors. Jean Prouvé's creations have become icons of the post-war period and have spanned the whole century. The originals of the Compass desk or the Direction chair sell for tens of thousands of euros at auction. The reproductions of them are included in the catalogue of the furniture manufacturer Vitra. Created in the late 1940s, the Petite Potence wall lamp consists of a single bulb attached to a long steel swivel bar. It is rightly considered to be Jean Prouvé's purist masterpiece. This lamp is fascinating with its sparing use of materials and its sober forms. Its unique style, in the pure modernist tradition, makes it a perfect design piece for offices, living rooms, bedrooms or kitchens. Owning an object by Jean Prouvé is like taking part in a conquest of man over matter. Experimentation and innovation with shapes, design, metal modelling, this lamp takes you back in time to the end of the 40s.

Our Stylist Says

I love this wall light for its sleek, industrial design and nod to mid-century modern aesthetics. Its slim, elongated arm and bold red finish make it a statement piece that works well in contemporary, urban, or minimalist interiors. It’s especially effective in bedrooms, home offices, or living areas where a functional yet stylish lighting solution is needed. For practical styling tips, pair it with other vintage or industrial accents, such as metal tray tables or raw wooden furniture, to create a cohesive look. Its adjustable arm allows for directional lighting, making it versatile and perfect for reading nooks or task lighting. Overall, it adds a touch of timeless craftsmanship while staying modern and understated.
