Handcrafted using white PVC slats, the Patera Oval pendant was created by designer Øivind Slaatto, who was inspired by the Fibonacci spiral, a complex mathematical structure. Present in nature, as on sunflowers, seashells or snail shells, the Fibonacci sequence is here reinterpreted to give new life to an incredible luminous ellipse, made up of small diamond-shaped alveoli which distribute the light through 360°. The flattened circular shape resembles an oval when viewed from the side, taking inspiration from the ellipsoidal shapes that can be seen in nature. Patera's 360-degree glare-free lighting is the result of a complex design, with individually positioned cells that bathe surrounding spaces, people and objects in a natural, homogeneous, flattering light. Its shape is beautiful to look at from any angle: the structure based on the Fibonacci sequence gives a different impression depending on the viewing point. The cells have been carefully designed to catch the light and obscure the light source from all viewing angles above 40 degrees. Below 40 degrees, the lamp provides direct downward lighting. The round opening under the lampshade is intended to optimise direct downlighting, with a smooth transition to reflected light. With its minimalist flattened shape, Patera Oval is suitable for spaces where the ceiling height is limited, or spaces where you need to free up height space. The pendant is also very suitable as a high pendant above a table to create a feeling of space between table and ceiling. Patera diffuses a soft, comfortable light which means it can be used everywhere, from the dining room to the meeting room, including the hall, entrance or bedroom. Patera lights up the people gathered around it in a natural way, without forming annoying shadows on faces. Both simple and refined, the style of the lamp adapts to most interior decorations, modern as well as classic. The Patera pendant won the “Lamp of the Year” award at the “Design Awards 2016” in Denmark. Designer Øivind Slaatto: “My ultimate goal was to create a three-dimensional Sudoku. The design required many mathematical calculations. This is also the most complex lamp I have ever created. I find that it gives off a certain poetry and my goal was to create a modern crystal chandelier. I hope this lamp will inspire those who live with it. I hope it will be a source of life. ’’.
