Pastis Armchair wood blue / Wood - Hay

A French designer based in Brussels, Julien Renault has created “Pastis”: a collection of wooden chairs, armchairs and tables inspired by French brasseries. Conceived during the first lockdown, Pastis is an ode to something we missed during that period: the simple, friendly atmosphere of cafes, bars and terraces. Combining robust construction and timeless aesthetics, these pieces focus on authenticity, solidity and quality craftsmanship. Julien Renault explains: “Pastis is clearly a tribute to moments spent with others, to common spaces. I like to imagine a bar, a café, with beautiful woodwork and white tablecloths. It's a rather romantic vision, and I designed this collection with that kind of atmosphere and space in mind - the type of environment where the furniture is weathered, but the design somehow seems eternally contemporary, always in tune with our times and our place.” A quasi-artisan with a joyful asceticism, Julien Renault draws his inspiration from Danish design, the Shakers, modern Swiss design, the modernist period, with its humble, honest materials, where everything seems at the same time simple, natural and full of life. Robust and timeless, the Pastis collection is made to last over time. Both sober and joyful, this furniture fits into any type of decor, while distilling a feeling of warmth, friendliness and vitality to its environment. Julien Renault : “I believe that every designer dreams of seeing their products still in use in 10, 20 or 30 years’ time. And I hope people will buy Pastis with the intention of using and enjoying it for a long time. With its strong, romantic curves, I hope the collection will bring a lot of depth and spirit to any space it furnishes, contributing to an atmosphere of authenticity and warmth.'' The bistro-style round tables have a base with strong, romantic curves that echo the armrests of the armchair. Julien Renault: “For the design of the table, I was looking at an English series where the main character was having tea, and I glimpsed at the back of the room a classic English side table with four curved legs. The line of these legs immediately reminded me of the armrest I was designing for the Pastis Chair! I immediately drew a sketch so as not to forget it." Available in a variety of lacquered wood types and colours, the Pastis collection is very versatile: it adapts to numerous interior spaces, from dining rooms to kitchens in private homes, cafes and other public environments.
