Continuing her collaboration with the French brand Forestier, German designer Jette Scheib has created two collections, Grass and Parrot, ever in touch with nature, and anchored in ancestral know-how. A clever marriage of tradition and modernity, these braided pendants invite us to travel. Resolutely bohemian, alone or in groups, the natural fibre combined with a superb palette of current colours are ready to calm our interiors. The stripes of warm colours evoke landscapes of cultivated fields. Made of braided abaca fibre, Grass and Parrot pendants are handcrafted in the Philippines. This very tight manual weaving work is remarkable. The colours intertwine and overlap beautifully. The technicality and precision of these collections require long, meticulous production: up to a whole day for a single shade. The relationship between Forestier and the Philippines, and more particularly with Filipino artisans, has lasted for over 15 years. Master craftspeople have combined manufacturing techniques that have been developed and perfected over the years as new projects unfold. Each tool, each step is tailor-made for each product. Forestier is attached to this artisanal work which guarantees a unique piece every time. To create the Grass and Parrot collections, designer Jette Scheib was inspired by the ancestral tradition of basketry and woven baskets. She explains: “I’m fascinated by the diversity and cultural influence in the design of the baskets. I felt the need to showcase this colourful, expressive side of basket culture. ” Her pendants tend to express the tranquillity that permeates the weaving process and the basket weavers' connection to the nature around them. Everything that surrounds Jette Scheib inspires her in her creations: nature's forms, the organic and people. An observer, she scrutinises items and individuals, as well as the interaction which is formed between them. Then, intuition and desire take over to create practical items which have a real personality and which are able to create wellness around them.
I really like this pendant for its natural, handcrafted appeal and versatile colour palette. Its hand-braided abaca construction gives it a relaxed, tactile quality that works beautifully in coastal, boho, or Scandinavian-inspired interiors. It’s perfect above dining tables or in kitchens where you want to add warmth and a touch of texture. For styling, consider pairing it with wooden or neutral-toned furniture to highlight its natural fibres, or hang a cluster at different heights to create visual interest in larger spaces. Its multicoloured and beige tones make it adaptable across colour schemes, and it can soften modern, minimalist settings while also complementing more eclectic schemes.
