Displaying strange interlocking organic shapes, Paradox vases are halfway between art and design. The curved lines, simple and flowing, are inspired by outsider art and primitivism. The round, smooth shapes are interspersed with rough textured blocks. The unglazed matt finish accentuates shape and detail. The slightly irregular lines and roughness of the material highlight the raw aesthetic of this creation. Ceramicist, designer and internationally renowned interior designer, Jonathan Adler first became passionate about terracotta and exhibited his first pottery collection at Barneys in New York in 1993. "Earth is the basis of my work and always will be", affirms Jonathan Adler. For each ceramic piece from the collection, a prototype is made by hand in Jonathan Adler's workshop located in the achingly hip So Ho neighbourhood of New York.
This little vase is great for adding a subtle designer touch to contemporary or minimalist interiors. Its sculptural shape and clean white porcelain finish make it versatile enough to work on both shelves and coffee tables, either solo or grouped with other decorative objects. I like to style it with a single, understated stem or a small bouquet of dried flowers to keep the look understated yet impactful. Its size makes it ideal for smaller spaces or as a complement to larger statement pieces, ensuring it adds visual interest without overwhelming the space. Overall, a practical choice for those who enjoy combining functional objects with artistic design.
