I’m a big fan of the Padstow wardrobe for its mix of a slim black frame and natural cane panels, which gives it just enough texture without overwhelming a room. It works particularly well in modern coastal or Scandi-inspired spaces, where light woods and muted tones set the scene. To style it, keep hanging rails tidy with matching wooden hangers, slot woven baskets on the top shelf for out-of-season items, and flank it with a leafy plant or simple mirror to balance its height.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
