Description

Since 1908, Carl Hansen & Søn has embodied the quintessence of Danish design by combining craftsmanship, quality and innovation. The brand brings together a collection of masterpieces of Scandinavian design: iconic items created by the greatest Danish designers. Handcrafted in Denmark, these pieces with their exceptional quality stand the test of time. With the strictest respect for the original models, Carl Hansen & Søn reissues the legendary creations of the founders of Scandinavian design. The Plico Chair folding lounge chair was designed in 1963 by the duo Preben Fabricius and Jorgen Kastholm. Kastholm's experience as a blacksmith combined with Fabricius' training as a cabinetmaker led to the creation of sculptural pieces, featured in museums around the world. Their work has influenced the aesthetics of Danish modernism. The designers sought to create a lounge chair that takes up as little space as possible when not in use, without compromising comfort and elegance. They created a deceptively simple design with luxurious details: magnificent brass fittings, saddle leather armrests. The frame is solid oak with curved rear legs for greater stability. The high backrest with its bolster provides optimal back support. The cushions are covered in linen with a refined look. The Plico Chair folding lounge chair is much more than just a piece of furniture: it's a functional work of art that embodies the heritage of Danish design.

Our Stylist Says

This chair is a superb example of mid-century design with a practical edge. I love its sleek, clean lines and the foldable feature, which makes it versatile for both small space living and more flexible room layouts. Its neutral tone and subtle texture give it a timeless appeal that works well in modern, Scandinavian, or minimalist interiors, but it can also add a touch of classic sophistication when paired with warmer woods or colourful accessories. Styling tips include pairing it with a cosy throw or a textured cushion for added comfort, and placing it near a reading nook or a corner with a side table to maximise its functional charm. Its lightweight frame makes it easy to move around, making it a great statement piece that combines form and function seamlessly.
