Description
Poetic and organic, the Overlap pendant is the result of a remarkable piece of work using material, shape and volume. Designed by Michael Anastassiades, a Cypriot designer based in London, it uses “cocoon” resin. This fibrous, translucent material lets the light shine through, creating a play of shadows for a surprising effect. This quasi-“organic” material evokes both the lightness of a fabric that’s been frozen, the warm texture of paper, the chrysalis of a butterfly in the making. "Cocoon" resin has been part of the Flos identity since its history began in 1960, and gave rise to several iconic pieces from the brand such as the Zeppelin pendant. Cocoon resin is sprayed onto a thin steel structure, consisting of two circles that intertwine. The result is a mysterious, almost living form, as if the circles were trying to grow inside the membrane. All about volume, Overlap’s shape changes depending on the observer’s point of view. Lit up, it creates a chimerical, delicate atmosphere in space, endowed with real emotional force.
